How to disable a program from opening on start-up
Sometimes, many programs opening at once upon startup which can slow down PCs, especially ones using HDDs (as opposed to SSDs).
Below are steps on how to modify the programs that open on startup.
On Windows 10:
- On your keyboard, press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC
- Click on the Startup tab.
- Click on the Status column to sort Enabled entries by default.
- Look through the list for programs you don’t need to open on startup (e.g., Skype, Zoom, etc.). Never remove something that you can’t identify without consulting an IT contact – this could result in your PC acting unusual.
- When you identify a program you want to disable, right-click the entry and choose disable. This will only disable the program from starting up – you can still search for the program and open it directly.
On Windows 7:
- Open the search bar, type in msconfig and press enter.
- Follow steps 2-5 above.
